Assemble a Disaster Supplies Kit

by gennypowered

You may need to survive on your own after a disaster. This means having your own food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least three days. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours, or it might take days.

Basic services such as electricity, gas, water, sewage treatment, and telephones may be cut off for days, or even a week or longer. Or, you may have to evacuate at a moment’s notice and take essentials with you. You probably will not have the opportunity to shop or search for the supplies you need.

A disaster supplies kit is a collection of basic items that members of a household may need in the event of a disaster.

There are six basics you should stock in your home in the event of a disaster.

1) Water – You should have at least a three-day supply of water and you should store at least one gallon of water per person per day. A normally active person needs at least one-half gallon of water daily just for drinking. You should also adjust quantities in very hot climates.

2) Food – Store at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food. Select foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking and little or no water. If you must heat food, pack a can of sterno. Select food items that are compact and lightweight. Avoid foods that will make you thirsty. Choose salt-free crackers, whole grain cereals, and canned foods with high liquid content.
-suggestions include: Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables. High energy foods–peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars, trail mix. And comfort/stress foods–cookies, hard candy, sweetened cereals, lollipops. ** Be sure to include a manual can opener.

3) A standard First Aid kit

4) Clothing, bedding and sanitation supplies. Sanitizer, toilet paper, sunscreen, etc.

5) A flashlight plus extra batteries. A portable radio.

6) Special Items – Prescription drugs, glasses or contact lenses, extra identification (passport or photo ID), cash or credit card.

In areas prone to major storms, it is also very nice to have a generator on hard to power your home should you be able to remain in it during & after a disaster. There are many options offered by Honeywell.   The HW 5500e is powerful option.

Winter storms around the nation

By: PowerProGuy

Winter storms have been ripping through the nation and there have been many power outages and a few deaths within the past week.  With treacherous snowing conditions cutting out power and the fear of massive flooding, many people were not prepared for the conditions of a winter storm. Many areas that barely ever see snow saw over a foot overnight. The biggest issue many people are having is having no power. Having a generator is good to have in your home in case of an emergency like this. Check out this months specials on our Honeywell generators. You can view the product demo video below the picture of the generator you are interested in via the attached link.

Videos that demonstrate the Honeywell Generators.

What a concept, YouTube videos that explain how to use your generator straight out of the box!

Step one – place the generator away from windows & doors to prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning
Step two – place the generator or invertor on a flat surface that does not block the air intake on the bottom of the Honeywell products.
Step three – add unleaded gasoline.
Each step illustrates a specific point that is VERY clear. The gentleman in the video is quite detailed with his indicators to make sure that users will understand.

camping power

Looking for a camping inverter/generator can be hard if you don’t know what you are looking for. With so many options to choose from getting the right portable generator for camping can be hard and picking the one for the job can be even more difficult. With camping and camping for extended periods of time for example on a RV it’s important to have a generator that can power your laptop and the all important coffee maker. I recommend the Honeywell 2000i portable generator for camping trips.

A 2000 watt Honeywell invertor/generator is a good choice because it runs quiet and it can power almost about whatever you throw its way.  The HW2000i has a 1.5 gallon fuel tank and can run at 50% load for 5 hours.  Typically it can support a 2-3 person operation on an R.V.  An inverter can charge almost anything from batteries for your R.V. or extra car and power boat.

Inverter generators produce DC electricity which is then converted to clean AC power at the output connections. Inverter generators are very light and are extremely portable, the HW2001 weighs 58 pounds.  Getting the best portable generator is not an easy decision. However, you’ll simply love your new inverter/generator because it is so useful. The beauty of an inverter or a generator is that they come in handy for whatever situation you might be in – from emergencies to extreme outdoor camping.   An Inverter great thing to have in your box of tools and will come in handy when you least expect it.

“Pocket Generator”

By: PowerProGuy

When you think of the word Generator, you think of a pretty large machine that creates electrical energy that you can’t really carry too many places because of its size. The Honeywell 1000i Inverter Generator is the smallest generator we carry and the most convenient.

With its compact size weighing in at only 30lbs it produces a powerful 900 watts. It can easily be stored in the trunk of a car.  It would be the perfect tool to bring on a family camping trip or a great gift for the holidays. You can purchase the Honeywell 1000i via the attatched link.

Winter storms equal possible power outages

by Gennypowered.

With winter storms arriving coupled with lower fuel prices – means that it will be a bit easier financially to run a generator during any prolonged power outages due to sleet, ice or snow storms this winter season. The smallest available generator, the HW 4000,  offers enough wattage to supply power for your furnace, several lights, the cordless phone & a security system.
Even though many home furnaces run via natural gas, you still need electricity to start the whole process. During 2008, there were record power outages across the Midwest and Northeast. December 2008, the Northeast region of the US experienced a 9 hour period of freezing rain that caused at least 1 million customers to lose power and that was just the beginning of the winter season.

Though gas prices have risen over the course of 2009 – prices are still lower than the record highs from 2007. So in the event of a power outage, keep the furnace running with a Honeywell generator.

Tailgating with a HW2000i Invertor

Tailgating using a HW2000i Inverter Generator.

by GennyPowered

 Honeywell-Portable-HW2000i-Generator

A couple weeks ago at the Bears vs. Lions game I noticed one of our Honeywell products being used by a group of fans.  They were using a HW 2000i Inverter Generator to provide power for their tailgate “party” needs.  The HW2000i portable Generator handled the boom box and several crock pots full of tasty treats EASILY.   One person was even using the extra power socket to charge their cell phone.

The HW2000i is a portable, easy to start & easy to use Inverter, plus the gas tank is big enough to handle 5 hours worth of run time. It’s quiet too, the noise out put is 62 – 70 decibels depending on the load on the unit.  Using a portable inverter generator , is so much easier than having to run the car engine or risking draining the battery by using a cigarette lighter adapter for your power needs.
